MAN ARRESTED WITH EXPLOSIVES AT DELHI RAILWAY STATION
25 Aug 2009
Police officers arrested a man with explosives at the Ajmeri Gate terminal at New Delhi Railway station in central Delhi on 25 August 2009. Two other individuals who accompanied the man were able to escape. Authorities suspect that the men are operatives for Lashar-e-Taiba, a Pakistan-based Islamist militant group. There are indications that the men planned to carry out an attack in Maharashtra state, where Mumbai is located, during the ongoing Ganeshotsav Hindu festival. Authorities are still working to determine more specific details about the plot, including the intended targets. The man who was arrested had several different identification documents in his possession, including a Pakistani passport and a voter registration card issued in Indian-administered Kashmir.
