Authorities extended a curfew for the Old City of Hyderabad through at least the morning of 31 March 2010 following three days of communal violence. Sporadic incidents of violence have occurred in the Gulzar Houz and Shahali Banda areas near the Charminar mosque. Clashes have also broken out in the Musheerabad area. Many shops in the Old City remain closed. The Andhra Pradesh state government has deployed additional security forces to communally-sensitive areas in the Old City. Security forces are on high alert for Hanuman Jayanti, an important Hindu holiday, on 30 March.
