Aircraft catches fire on take-off at New Delhi airport

An Air Mauritius A330-200 (flight MK 745) caught on fire during takeoff from New Delhi's International Airport (VIDP/DEL) on 24 July 2008. Passengers and crew were successfully evacuated from the aircraft. Some sources reported that the fire was sparked by a bird hitting the aircraft; others reported that fire on the aircraft’s undercarriage could have possibly been sparked by the pilot suddenly braking during takeoff. An investigation is underway.
