Traffic Problems & Possible Demonstrations Likely Over Inauguration

On 27 January 2010 President-elect Porfirio Lobo will assume office, formally ending the tenure of ousted President Manuel Zelaya and interim President Roberto Micheletti. Zelaya's supporters, who claim that the election results are invalid, are expected to stage protests in Tegucigalpa over Lobo's ascension. Most political demonstrations related to Honduras' ongoing political conflict have occurred near the National Pedagogical University, the National Stadium and the Brazilian Embassy, where Zelaya has been housed since he returned to Honduras. Zelaya is expected to fly to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with Dominican President Leonel Fernandez after the inauguration ceremony concludes.
