Student protesters and police clash

Police officers clashed with approximately 3,000 student protesters during demonstrations near government buildings in Tegucigalpa on 17 July 2008. The students, who demanded that the government increase transportation subsidies, held demonstrations in front of the Ministry of Education, the Government House and the National Congress. The demonstrations escalated when protesters threw rocks and bottles at police officers. Authorities arrested approximately 30 students. The incident disrupted transportation in Tegucigalpa.
