INTRIM GOVERNMENT REJECT NEW PROPOSALS
23 Jul 2009
On 22 July 2009 Honduras' interim government continued to reject mediators' proposals to end the country's political crisis. Costa Rican President Oscar Arias again proposed that ousted President Manuel Zelaya and interim President Roberto Micheletti lead a coalition government. Arias made several concessions to appease the interim government, including a lifting of sanctions against Honduras, limited amnesty for political crimes and measures that would prevent Zelaya from seeking an additional presidential term. After the latest round of negotiations failed, Zelaya stated that he will cross into Honduras from Nicaragua on 24 July.
