INTERIM LEADER STATES HE WILL INSTALL NATIONAL UNITY GOVERNMENT

09 Nov 2009
On 5 November 2009 interim leader Roberto Micheletti stated that he will install a national unity government without the involvement of ousted President Manuel Zelaya. The announcement came just before the deadline to implement a power-sharing agreement brokered by the U.S. last week. The deal included a provision for a reconciliation Cabinet with representatives from both Zelaya and Micheletti; the deadline for the creation of the Cabinet is 6 November. Zelaya reportedly did not submit a list of representatives for the Cabinet because the Honduran Congress did not hold a vote on his restoration to power. Zelaya responded to Micheletti’s announcement by stating that he will not recognise the results of elections that are planned for 29 November 2009.
