PRIME MINISTER DISMISSED

30 Oct 2009
The Haitian Senate have today voted to dismiss Prime Minister Michele Pierre-Louis from office. Eighteen of the Senate’s 29 members voted to oust Pierre-Louis, who has been criticised for the lack of economic recovery under her administration. It remains unclear who will replace Pierre-Louis at this time, but President Rene Preval has stated that he plans to quickly fill the vacant office. Pierre-Louis took office in September 2009, five months after her predecessor was deposed during riots over high food prices.
