Hurricane Ike kills more than 60

In Haiti, Ike caused flooding and mudslides and killed at least 61 people. This comes in the wake of Tropical Storm Hanna, which killed more than 550 people in the city of Gonaives on 1 September. Ike also caused significant damage in the Turks and Caicos Islands. More than 80 percent of homes on Grand Turk Island have been severely damaged or destroyed. Officials expect power outages on South Caicos Island to continue for several more days; South Caicos Airport (MBSC/XSC) is submerged under water.
