Government To Move Residents To Relocation Camps
22 Jan 2010
The Haitian government has announced plans to move 400,000 residents from the capital city of Port-au-Prince to temporary relocation camps outside the metropolitan area. The camps will reportedly be constructed with the aid of foreign governments and international aid organizations. The massive relocation plan is set to begin by the end of January and is aimed at stopping the spread of diseases that have sprung up in unsanitary makeshift living conditions in the rubble of the city. Government officials stated that the temporary camps would be supplied with adequate food, water and medicine that currently may not be reaching many survivors in slum areas of Port-au-Prince. The mass exodus from the capital is likely to be conducted under the supervision of the U.S. military.
