TRADE UNIONS CALL 2 DAY STRIKE

12 Oct 2009
The National Organization of Free Trade Unions in Guinea (ONSLG) has called a two-day strike on 12 and 13 October 2009 to protest against the violent government crackdown that occurred in Conakry, the capital, on 28 September. As of 12 October, many businesses, offices, gas stations and banks are closed in observance of the strike. In Conakry, traffic was unusually light, as many people stayed off the roads. There have been no reports of violence during the strike, though the junta administration has likely maintained a visible security presence, particularly in Conakry.
