GOVERNMENT WORKERS ON 24 HOUR STRIKE

More than 95,000 government workers are reportedly taking part in a 24-hour strike in Guinea on 28 October 2009 to mark the one-month anniversary of the violent military crackdown on protesters that resulted in 150 deaths and approximately 1,200 injuries. Similarly, several youth organisations also began a five-day hunger strike on 28 October to commemorate the victims of the 28 September violence and to increase pressure on the government and opposition to attempt some form of compromise regarding the ongoing political stalemate.
