Rebel soldiers have shot dead the president of Guinea-Bissau - Joao Bernardo Vieira. There is still said to gunfire around the capital, Bissau.It is unclear who is in control of the West African nation, which is one of the world's poorest states and has a history of coups. It is also a drug trafficking centre.
