5 die following heavy rains

authorities announced today that strong rains and the resulting floodwaters have led to the deaths of at least five people over the past three days. Four individuals died in Guatemala City after torrential rains caused a tree to crush their home and a fifth was killed in southern Escuintla after her vehicle was swept away by floodwaters. The national disaster response agency has placed Guatemala on orange alert due to the potential for continuing rains over the next several days. The agency has identified approximately 800 areas at high risk for flooding and landslides, 60 of which are located in the Guatemala City metropolitan area
