Shoppers affected by continuing rioting
18 Dec 2008
Riot police have clashed with demonstrators in central Athens, sending Christmas shoppers running for cover.
Protesters, who had broken away from a peacefully rally, threw rocks and petrol bombs at police and buildings near the Greek parliament. Police officers responded by firing tear gas on the crowd.
Protesters also tried to burn down the city's main Christmas tree, unveiled earlier this week as a replacement for the original one which was torched during previous violence.
It is the 13th day of anti-government demonstrations since police shot and killed 15-year-old Alexandros Grigoropoulos.
