One day nation wide strike

As previously announced, public and private sector unions in Greece are staging a one-day nationwide strike on 8 July 2010 to protest the government's austerity measures and proposed labor reforms. The work stoppage has resulted in the suspension of public services across the country and has disrupted trains, ferries and local public transportation. Air traffic controllers staged a four-hour strike that left dozens of domestic and international flights canceled or delayed. More than 12,000 people gathered in Athens in three separate street protests; apart from one incident in which protesters attacked a suspected undercover police officer, there were no reports of significant violence.
