No Taxis Available in Greek Cities on 14th & 15th April Due To Strike By Taxi Drivers
14 Apr 2010
Greek taxi drivers launched a two-day strike on 14 April 2010 to protest new government measures that require drivers to issue receipts and keep account books to aid in tax collection. No taxis will be available in Athens and other Greek cities on 14 and 15 April as a result of the work stoppage, which was accompanied on 14 April by a large-scale demonstration in central Athens, where more than 10,000 taxi drivers gathered to protest a tax reform bill being considered by the Greek Parliament. Taxi drivers staged disruptive strikes over the new requirements in February and March 2010. Meanwhile, public transport workers will stage a six-hour strike on 15 April that could result in further disruptions to ground transportation, although subway workers are not expected to take part.
