Greek air traffic controllers go on strike
14 Jul 2010
Greek air traffic controllers will stage a four-hour strike beginning at 1100 local time (0800 UTC) on 15 July 2010 to protest the non-payment of past-due wages. The work stoppage is expected to halt most inbound and outbound flights. In anticipation of the strike, Olympic Airways canceled 14 flights and rescheduled 27 others. Meanwhile, on the same day public sector workers will stage a nationwide strike to protest the government's economic austerity measures. The strike is expected to result in disruptions to government offices, hospitals and railway services, and will be accompanied by rallies in Athens and Thessaloniki.
