Farmers continue a nationwide protest
26 Jan 2009
Farmers continued protesting nationwide for the eighth consecutive day on 26 January 2009. Highways and roads were blocked in 50 locations throughout Greece, including at border crossings with Bulgaria and on the highways connecting Athens to Thessaloniki and the southern Peloponnese Peninsula. In response to the protesters’ demands, the government has offered 500 million euros in aid, but the farmers have rejected the offer as too vague.
