Arson attack on train closes 4 stations in Athens

03 Mar 2009
Youths set fire to a commuter train in the Athens suburb of Kifisia at approximately 0100 local time on 3 March 2009. At least six of the Athens-Piraeus Electric Railways Company (ISAP) train's carriages were destroyed, and the station sustained damage. The assailants warned passengers to exit the train before pouring petrol on the train and throwing Molotov cocktails at it; no one was injured. None of the 15 to 20 masked assailants has been apprehended. The Kifisia station -- as well as the Neratziotissa, Marousi, and KAT stations -- remains closed as of 3 March. Two anarchist organisations have claimed responsibility for the attack.
