Air traffic controllers call 24 hr strike
27 Jan 2009
Major flight disruptions are likely in Greece on 28 January 2009 as the result of an industrial action by air traffic controllers. The labor action is expected to result in the suspension of most flights to and from Greek airports, with the exception of some emergency or medical flights. The strike is scheduled to start shortly after midnight local time and continue for 24 hours. Air traffic controllers are calling the strike in solidarity with protesting farmers, who continued nationwide demonstrations for a ninth consecutive day on 27 January. More than 70 road blockades are reportedly in place throughout the country. The actions have begun to result in shortages, mostly of fresh produce and medications.
