Strike affects train service across the country

29 Jan 2009
Workers affiliated with the GDBA and Transnet rail unions began a warning strike at 0445 local time (0345 UTC) on 29 January 2009. The action was called over scheduling issues. Disruptions to commuter rail services occurred in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Bremen, Saalfeld, Magdeburg and Nuremburg. Both long-haul and regional services were affected in Munich, Nuremberg and Cologne. Approximately 40 trains connecting Munich and Nuremberg were canceled and many others experienced delays. The strike has since ended, and train traffic has returned to normal.
