Short duration strikes staged at 2 German airports

Short two-hour strikes were staged at Berlin`s Tegel and Schoenefeld airports on 12 February 2009. The strike at Tegel Airport lasted from 0600 to 0800 local time and the strike at Schoenefeld lasted from 0700 to 0900 local time. Approximately 250 public sector workers participated in the strikes; the workers are demanding an 8-percent wage increase but have only been offered a raise of 2.6 percent. The strike forced the cancellation of at least 10 flights and delayed others. Their union has stated that it will not call for any other strikes until after 15 February as it waits for a response to its demands.
