Railway union threaten to take strike action

Representatives from the German railway union Transnet announced on 23 January 2009 that union members will go on strike next week if rail operator Deutsche Bahn does not increase workers' proposed salaries. Ongoing salary negotiations have not been successful thus far. Transnet members will begin striking if the 28 January negotiations between the unions and Deutsche Bahn fail to produce a satisfactory compromise. Leaders of the GDL union have also threatened to call a strike, but have stated that the union will not take any action until February.
