Public Sector Workers stage A Second Day of Strikes

Public workers across Germany are staging a second day of warning strikes on 4 February 2010 to demand a 5 percent pay increase. Workers at Dusseldorf Airport staged a four-hour strike beginning 0400 local time (0300 GMT and personnel at Cologne-Bonn Airport also stopped work. There were no immediate reports of flight disruptions, but delays are expected to occur later in the day. Public transportation was also affected, as bus and tram drivers in towns in North-Rhine-Westphalia and Baden-Wurttemberg joined the strike. Approximately 22,000 public service workers participated in the strike on 3 February, which caused disruptions to trash collection, schools and municipal services.
