Five bombs explode in separatist region
07 Jul 2008
Five explosions were reported in or near the separatist region of Abkhazia on 6 July 2008. Four of the explosions occurred almost simultaneously at approximately 0800 local time on a road leading from the Georgian city of Zugdidi to the Inguri River, which separates the separatist region from Georgia. No one was injured in the blasts. In a separate incident in Abkhazia that same day, a bomb exploded in a café in the town of Gali shortly before 2300 local time. Four people were killed and five were injured in the blast. As they have done in response to past incidents, Abkhazian officials blamed Georgia for the attacks, and Georgia has denied the charges.
