We advise against all but essential travel to Georgia.
The situation in Georgia remains volatile and fast moving. All British nationals should monitor developments closely and check this travel advice regularly. British nationals in Georgia who have not done so already should register with the British Embassy on 00995 99 188687.
If you have no pressing need to remain in Georgia, you should consider whether it is necessary for you to stay.
We advise against all travel to the separatist regions of South Ossetia, Abkhazia and also the upper Kodori Valley (also known as upper Abkhazia). We also advise against travel to all areas where troop deployments have been reported, in particular the towns of Poti, Gori, Senaki and Zugdidi.
Although the situation is now calmer there are reports of fighting, troop movements and criminal violence in the conflict zones of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, and in other Georgian areas, particularly in the towns of Poti, Senaki and Zugdidi. There also remains a significant risk of local volunteer militia activity in these areas.
Tbilisi International Airport appears to be operational but a significant number of scheduled flights have been cancelled and further flight cancellations are to be expected. Road routes from Armenia continue to provide the main routes into and out of Georgia.
You should avoid all land borders with the Russian Federation.
