A car bomb exploded in Sukhumi

A car bomb exploded on 25 September 2008 in Sukhumi, the capital of the separatist region of Abkhazia. The blast broke windows and doors at several residential buildings and caused minor damage to the headquarters of Abkhazia's Interior Ministry; there were no casualties. A local security official called the bombing a "terrorist act" and linked it to 30 September, when Abkhazia marks the end of hostilities with Georgia during the conflict in the 1990s. The official did not name any possible suspects.
