10,000 people rallied in Tblisi
07 Nov 2008
Approximately 10,000 people rallied in Tblisi on 7 November 2008 to protest against President Mikhail Saakashvili. Organisers had stated that they expected up to 50,000 people to attend the demonstration. The rally was organised in remembrance of a 2007 incident in which police officers used rubber bullets, tear gas and water cannons to dispel protesters outside Parliament. Five of Georgia's opposition parties announced that they plan to stage a number of protests in the next five months. There have been no reports of violence at this time.
