Thousands Evacuated From Homes By Cyclone
05 Feb 2010
Cyclone Oli struck French Polynesia on 4 February 2010, forcing thousands of people to evacuate their homes and hotels. Roads in the Iles-du-Vent archipelago, which includes Tahiti, were closed and approximately 3,500 residents and tourists sheltered in schools and churches. At least 12 people were injured in Bora Bora, which is located in the Iles-Sous-le-Vent archipelago. Many buildings on the islands were destroyed or sustained damage, and power and communication outages have been reported.
