General strike
14 Jun 2010
A general strike called by 11 unions in French Polynesia continued for a fourth consecutive day on 14 June 2010, resulting in disruptions to air travel and public services. Thousands of travelers have been stranded in the territory as Tahiti Faa'a International Airport (NTAA/PPT) has been closed for international flights as a result of a strike by some of the airport's firefighters. Despite the impact to aviation, overall adherence to the strike has been low, with only 17 percent of state employees and 7 percent of territorial government employees participating. Talks to end the strike are continuing
