Several unions call for strike on 29th January
27 Jan 2009
The Confederation Francaise du Travail, the Confederation Generale du Travail and six other labour unions have called for a nationwide general strike to take place on 29 January 2009. Unions are demanding that the government and the management of companies take action to protect employees during the current economic crisis. Reports indicate that 69 percent of French citizens support the strike, and the turnout and impact could be significant. In addition to other services in both the public and private sectors, public transport and aviation could be affected. Travellers and residents should anticipate delays and disruptions on 29 January.
