Rail workers strike halts half train services
26 May 2009
French rail workers are staging a one-day strike on 26 May 2009 as a part of a union-organized national day of protests to demand job security during the country's economic downturn. The work stoppage has halted nearly half of regional train services operated by the state rail operator SNCF, while only 25 percent of high-speed trains are experiencing disruptions. In Paris, approximately 60 percent of commuter rail services are operating. There are also reports of minor delays at Paris' Roissy-Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports. Unions are calling for an additional day of action on 13 June.
