48-Hour Strike By Air Traffic Contollers
13 Jan 2010
Air traffic controllers launched a 48-hour strike on 13 January 2010 to protest proposed staffing cuts in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC). The work stoppage is causing disruptions to air traffic, which are being exacerbated by freezing rain and snow. In the Paris area, approximately 50 percent of flights are operating at Orly Airport (LFPO/ORY), while between 30 and 50 percent of flights at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle (LFPG/CDG) were canceled. Other cities that may experience flight disruptions include Beauvais, Brest, Lyon, Marseille, Montpellier, Nice and Toulouse. Delays and cancellations to flights are likely to persist on 14 January, the second day of the air traffic controllers' strike.
