Small passenger aircraft overshot runway at Taveuni Island Airport

On 13 October 2008 a small propeller-driven passenger aircraft overshot the runway at Taveuni Island Airport (NFNM/TVU) in Matei and crashed into an office building at the end of the runway. Reports indicate that the Harbin Y12 aircraft was owned and operated by the local Air Fiji airline. Aviation authorities stated that none of the passengers and crew were injured in the accident and that the aircraft and building sustained only minor damage. Both Air Fiji officials and the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji have opened separate investigations into the incident. The airport was forced to close following the accident and reopened several hours later.
