What is my position if my Travel Agent or Tour Operator are pressurising me to take their travel insurance as part of my holiday package when I know it is much cheaper with you and I will be getting similar if not greater benefits?
The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has declared the practice of insisting on the purchase of travel insurance before offering a discount on a holiday package illegal. The OFT are currently investigating the present trend of offering "free" insurance with holiday packages on the basis that this severely restricts the consumers' choice and does not necessarily offer the purported benefits.
On a daily basis we are asked by our clients to fax a copy of our policy schedule and benefits to travel agents and tour operators before they will offer the client's chosen holiday for sale. We are pleased to continue to provide this service and are delighted to note that as yet we have not had one occasion when our policies have been considered of a lesser standard than those offered by the travel agent or tour operator.
