Do you have a "cooling off" period after I have purchased my policy?

You may cancel this policy within 14 days of receipt of your policy documentation. Providing your policy has been paid in full, you will receive a full premium refund as long as you have not travelled, no valid claim has been made or is intended to be made and no incident likely to give rise to a valid claim has occurred. You must contact Direct Travel Insurance on 0845 605 2700 to confirm your wish to cancel.

Cancellation outside the 14 day “cooling off” period:
If you decide this cover is no longer suitable for you and you want to cancel your policy after the 14 day cooling off period, you can do so by calling us on 0845 605 2700 in line with the terms outlined below we will refund a proportion of the premium you have paid within 30 days of the date you contact us to ask to cancel the policy.

If you are a Single Trip policyholder and you have not travelled or made a claim before you asked to cancel the policy, you will be entitled to a refund of the premium paid, subject to deduction of 30% of the premium paid to represent the period during which you have been on risk for cancellation cover plus a £15 administration fee.

If you are an Annual Multi-Trip policyholder and you have not made a claim before you asked to cancel the policy, you will be entitled to a refund of the premium paid, subject to a deduction for the time for which you have been covered on a proportionate basis, plus a £15 administration fee.

If you are a Backpacker policyholder and you have not made a claim before you asked to cancel the policy, you will be entitled to a refund of the premium paid, subject to deduction of 30% of the premium initially paid to represent the period during which you had been on risk for cancellation, plus a deduction for the period of time in which you have used the policy for travel (if applicable), plus a £15 administration fee.

We may also cancel the policy by providing 30 days notice by registered post to your last known address.

Non payment of premiums:
We reserve the right to cancel this policy in the event of non payment of the premium.

For single-trip cover only:
We have the right to cancel this policy without refunding your premium if your journey or one-way trip is cancelled or cut short.

For annual multi-trip cover only:
We have the right to cancel the cover given on this policy for a journey if you cancel or cut short that journey.
