Although the Icelandic volcanic ash situation has died down and there are no travel disruptions predicted, we can understand that you may be concerned in case a similar situation arises. In that instance, the following would apply:
If you purchased your policy on or before 09/11/10, Direct Travel Insurance will cover claims resulting from closure of airspace due to volcanic ash. All conditions and exclusions in your policy remain unchanged.
Claims would be covered under the following sections (subject to policy limitations):
If you purchased your policy after 10/11/10, this type of incident would be covered under Section 24 – Natural Catastrophe Travel Cancellation and Expenses Insurance in our Travel Insurance policy and Section 15 in our Backpacker policy, providing you have purchased the cover.
If you purchased your policy on or after 24/03/11, this type of incident would be covered under Section X – Natural Catastrophe Travel Cancellation and Expenses Insurance in our Travel Insurance policy, providing you have purchased the cover.
