UN security Council voted to dissolve mission

31 Jul 2008
On 30 July 2008 the U.N. Security Council voted to dissolve the U.N. Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea. The Security Council stated that restrictions placed upon it by Eritrea made it impossible for the peacekeeping and monitoring mission to carry out its mandate. The council emphasized that the termination of the mission was done without prejudice to Ethiopia and Eritrea's obligation to the Algiers agreement, which ended the Eritrean-Ethiopian war. The United Nations further implored the two countries to abide by the Algiers agreement and show restraint in any issues that may arise between the two countries.
