GOVERNMENT SET UP FLOOD RECOVERY OPERATION

09 Nov 2009
The Salvadoran government have launched a massive recovery operation after three days of heavy rains caused massive flooding throughout the country. Reports indicate that at least 124 people have been killed and many more are still missing. Military helicopters are reportedly being deployed to reach areas that have been cut off by flooded roads and bridges. Flooding has affected some areas of San Salvador, the capital, forcing thousands of residents to flee to temporary shelters. The flooding resulted after three days of torrential rain from tropical storms that subsequently formed Hurricane Ida in the Gulf of Mexico.
