Bedouins shot and injure police officer

On 13 November 2008 several Bedouins driving in a vehicle shot and injured an Egyptian police officer before fleeing in the northern Sinai Peninsula. The incident is the latest in a string of clashes and attacks by Bedouins against security personnel since 10 November, when a police shooting that killed a Bedouin and injured another stoked pre-existing tensions between Bedouins and Egyptian authorities. In several incidents, Bedouins have attacked police checkpoints and on 11 November, they stormed a police station near the Egypt-Israel border, briefly taking as many as 25 police officers hostage and stealing rifles, ammunition and communications equipment.
