National strike on 20/01/09 will cause delays if travelling by land

Several demonstrations have recently been held in the south of Ecuador to protest against the new mining law to be approved by the National Assembly, which has caused serious disruption of roads in the provinces of Azuay, Zamora, Chinchipe, Loja and Morona Santiago. A national strike will be held on 20 January 2009; you should exercise caution and expect delays if travelling by land.
