Heavy rains shut main commercial route for 3 months

Heavy rains in parts of the country have caused the collapse of part of the Aloag-Santo Domingo highway, which is the main route between Guayaquil, Ecuador's largest city with Quito, the capital. All traffic has been suspended on the highway and it is estimated it may take 3 months to repair. There are no alternative routes There was also a minor collapse on the Calacali-La Independencia highway, which connects Quito with the north coast.
