Flooding affects Quito
16 Apr 2009
Flooding affected local businesses and homes and interrupted transport in northern Quito. La Y, Batán Bajo, La Jipijapa, Quito Tenis, Inca and Río Coca were the most affected sectors of the city. Traffic was heavily congested along avenues 6 de Diciembre, De lo Granados, El Inca, Shyris and Gaspar de Vallarroel, and drivers along these avenues reported delays of more than an hour. Pedestrians reported that several streets in northern Quito were covered with a thick layer of mud and were not passable. Authorities stated that the water drainage system has already reached its capacity and officials do not know when the system will be able to absorb the overflow.
