Unions block traffic in Navarette

Beginning at approximately 0700 local time on 6 August 2008 transportation union workers blocked traffic and clashed with police officers on Joaquin Balaguer Road in the town of Navarette, which is located approximately 20 mi/32 from Santiago. The workers protested against the Caribe Tours bus company, which recently inaugurated service to Santiago, Santo Domingo, Dajabon and Cap-Haitien, Haiti. The protesters threw rocks at the company's buses, shattering windows. At least five people were injured in the incident. Police officers dispersed the protest by 1030 local time.
