Bomb explodes underneath car outside Zagreb newspaper office

A bomb planted underneath a car exploded outside the offices of a weekly newspaper in Zagreb at 1845 local time (1745 UTC) on 23 October 2008. Authorities stated that the bomb killed the owner of the newspaper and a marketing executive. The two victims were reportedly inside the car in a parking lot located on Palmoticeva Street in the central area of the city when the bomb exploded. Croatian President Stipe Mesic stated that the bombing was an act of terrorism against the paper, which publishes investigative articles that expose corruption and human rights abuses. Investigators suspect that the incident is connected to a string of attacks perpetrated by organized crime groups in Croatia. Police officers stated that an investigation into the bombing has been opened and that no suspects have been identified.
