Transport Workers Union Strike Continues

14 Apr 2010
An indefinite National Transport Union strike continued on 13 April 2010 for a second day as most taxi and inter-urban buses took part in the action to protest rising fuel costs. Truck drivers have indicated that they will join the strike beginning on 14 April. Numerous schools and marketplaces have been closed throughout the country due to a general lack of transportation. The strike has affected major cities, including Abidjan, the economic capital, where many delays and transportation disruptions have been reported. Transportation workers are upset over the recent 200 percent fuel price increase; a vast majority of the increases are government-levied taxes.
