Date for presidential elections set

Government officials announced that the long-delayed presidential election has been set for 29 November 2009. The decision comes amid increasing international and opposition pressure to hold the vote after elections had been again delayed in November 2008. U.N. officials and rebel representatives had recently made statements indicating a heightened threat against the peace process and the general stability of the nation.
