Taxi drivers strike disrupts traffic in San Jose

Hundreds of taxi drivers staged a strike in San Jose on 23 March 2009 to protest President Oscar Arias' proposed plan to crack down on unlicensed taxi drivers. The drivers disrupted traffic on major streets throughout San Jose, including near the Presidential House and the Legislative Assembly building. Representatives from the Legislative Assembly will meet with taxi drivers over the issue on 1 April. Unlicensed taxi drivers have stated that they will not stage a strike over the issue.
