03 Apr 2009
Strong rains caused flooding and damage to several districts of Bogota, including Fontibon, Kennedy, Bosa and Tunjuelito. Nineteen other communities in Bogota also reported emergencies; as a result, Bogota officials declared the capital city to be on yellow alert. They stated that the downpour is considered the worst in 50 years, affecting approximately 5,000 people, 1,000 homes and 400 cars. Authorities report that heavy precipitation will likely continue to occur countrywide and that the most affected departments will be Antioquia, Caldas, Cauca, Cundinamarca, Huila, Santander and some areas of Eje Cafetero.
